The Museum für Naturkunde – Leibniz Institute tor Evolution and Biodiversity Science is an excellent and integrated research museum within the Leibniz Association. lts activities cover and tightly link the fields of collection-based research, development of collections and public engagement with science.

 

 

Position:

Short term ESR (“early stage researcher”) in the framework of the Marie Sktodowska-Curie ITN EvoCELL: “Animal evolution from a cell type perspective: multidisciplinary training in single-cell genomics, evo-devo and in science outreach”

Duration:

12 months, the suggested starting date for the fellow is January 1’1. 2021

Salary level:

a monthly gross salary of about 3.600,- € to 3.900,- € depending on family status (including health care and social security benefits).


 

Job Description:

“User Experience/lnteraction designer for the development of an online exhibition prototype”

We’re looking for a skilled interaction designer in their early career for the translation of complex biological science and the development of an online exhibition prototype.
The position includes prototyping, data visualisation, mentoring of co-creation workshops, and researching into innovative ways on how to disseminate the project results by the EvoCELL network to a wider audience. The position includes close collaboration with the museum’s exhibition department. The primary goal will be to understand the curatorial ideas for the communication of the EvoCELL research and transform that understanding into user-focused and intuitive interfaces for the web.
The expected biological results of the EvoCELL network, subprojects of which are distributed over 11 excellent research institutions across Europe, will have an impact not only on our understanding of the evolutionary processes underlying animal development and diversification, but also on mechanisms driving the evolution of organisms as a whole, including humans.
The position involves a short stay at one of the EvoCELL partners and collaborators institution as weil as participation in the yearly meetings and practical courses organized by the network, to ensure exchange with the experts within the EvoCELL network.

Requirements:

The cand idate has a background in User Experience and I nteraction Design, and experience with prototyping as weil as data visualisation. We’re looking tor a creative mind who is willing to actively experiment with new and different ways in designing innovative science outreach concepts. The candidate ideally has an understand ing of HTML, CSS, ActionScri pt, JavaScri pt, and CM S systems.
To be eligible for the fellowship, candidates must be within the first tour years of their research career and not hold a doctoral degree.
Candidates of all nationalities may apply, but they must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Germany tor more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their appointment (short stays such as holidays or compulsory national service are not taken into account).
